Landscapes
I am interested in landscapes and how we experience something universally familiar, recognizable and essential in their depiction.

I first began painting landscapes upon moving to the Bay Area in 1999. I initially began by painting plein air, and I found this method informed my sense of color and light. Painting landscapes enhanced my abstract painting tremendously. I am drawn to how light shifts our perception of our surroundings, creating a halo of soft diffusion or pockets of ambiguity.
